Abstract : This paper presents an investigation of the safety of a reinforced concrete structure constructed on rock slope. The thin soil layer above the rock was washed out leaving some footings partially exposed. Safety of the structure was questioned leading to a controversy between the owner and the contractor. The aim of this work is to inform the practicing engineers of one of the problems associated with building foundation on rock, the possible solution, and recommendations to avoid such a problem.
