Abstract : The potential importance of groundwater in Saudi Ara ia is prese~ted, Space borne remote sensing devices have been used to c lIect data and to investigate the drainage pattern of Sahl AI Matran Area, i the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia. between AIWajh and Umm Lajj cit es, Enhanced Landsat Thematic Mapper images, together with a rial photos, have been used in the visual identification of thematic features Digital image processing and Iithographies were prepared. Distinct drai age pattern types occurring.in the study area are characterized. Drainage analysis was carried out in order to reveal the efficiency 0 the drainage network expressed as'ihe drainage type , orientation . densit , integration and uniformity . Drainage angularity in the area is clearly related to the main fault sys ems of the area. Key Words: Sahi AI Matran, Saudi Arabia, Landsat TM. Drainage pattern.
