Abstract
:
Views of more than 35 scholars who commented on a working paper on teaching microeconomics in Islamic perspective are briefly reported. Some scholars think that multiplicity of goals provides a better basis for analysing the behaviour of economic agents but others see nothing wrong with accepting the maximisation hypothesis as an analytical device. While some found conventional analytical tools suitable others thought nothing short of a radical departure from neoclassical economics and starting from basic Islamic propositions will be appropriate. However, the actual practice in universities teaching Islamic economics was reported to be a mixture of the two approaches. A seminar which discussed the working paper agreed on the need of further discussions covering macroeconomics and other important areas.
